Meet the maker

Akweyo Irene

Crocheter

When Akweyo Irene was young her parents divorced and her mother left Irene and the other four children with their father, who wasn't mentally stable. Although she was not directly affected by the war, her family struggled greatly to afford school and were often unable to meet their own basic needs. Working at KK Uganda has provided Irene with a steady source of income and she has been able to support her extended family. Irene hopes to sponsor her niece through school and to also provide her own child with a proper education.

DREAMS FOR THE FUTURE

My future dream is to educate my child up to the university level. I also hope to take over the family fish selling business after the program since my mother is now old.

FAVORITE THING ABOUT NORTHERN UGANDA

The most beautiful thing about northern Uganda is the people. They are so welcoming, they do not segregate and that’s the reason I have stayed in Gulu district for long.

MESSAGE TO KK intl.

I would like to thank the founders of KK intl. for uplifting me from the poverty stricken life and I pray to God to bless all the initiators of the crocheting project.
