The Process
How Does The Recycling Work?
Every item received through the Second Chance Bag will be sorted & processed for it's "next best use". The first option is re-use, then like fabrics are grouped for fiber-to-fiber recycling to create new fabrics, or items are downcycled for long-term functional uses like commercial insulation.

We ask that you fill the Second Chance Bag with clean clothing. Items that are NOT ACCEPTED are: Damaged or stained clothing, swimwear, socks, underwear, shoes.
Each item received through a Second Chance Bag is sorted and categorized based on a hierarchy of it's next "highest & best use". Good quality items that can continue to be worn will be re-sold (proceeds benefiting Homeboy Threads) or donated to trusted partners in need of clothing.
The next best use is fiber-to-fiber recycling, currently most available for non blended fabrics (100% cotton, for example). Homeboy Threads sorts and aggregates all similar fabrics to be recycled & spun into new fabrics.
Another possible outcome is "downcycling" or the repurposing of these fabrics to provide a functional use. One prominent example is clothing being turned into insulation for cars or buildings.
Shortly after you purchase a Second Chance Bag an email will be sent containing a unique code for $20 off your next purchase.
It is valid to be used 1 time on a purchase of non-sale items. It will not combine with other offers and the code will expire 1 year after receiving it.
Great! You don't have to use the store credit you receive from the purchase of the Second Chance Bag to shop more if you don't want to.
You can also choose to donate any proceeds your store credit to Homeboy Industries (the non-profit organization that runs Homeboy Threads). They will use any funds to further their work of providing second chances.
