The Fashion Revolution Continues...
It's time we redefine our relationship with our clothing
We are currently in the middle of Fashion Revolution Week — a global event dedicated to bringing awareness to the injustices within the fashion industry. For those of you who are hearing about this for the first time, this event was first started nine years ago after the tragic collapse of the Rana Plaza clothing factory that killed over 1,100 people. The starkest of reminders that fashion is people.
We have welcomed this movement with open arms and support due to the fact that the missing link in the conversation around sustainability (and the impact of our clothing purchases) has been the humanity. People like to discuss the use of "green" materials, but too often fail to acknowledge the conditions provided for the people actually producing the clothing.
It's time we redefine our relationship with our clothing and it starts with a reframing of the value clothing has in our life, and in the lives of those who make it.
Since 2007, KNOWN SUPPLY and our brands (shout out Krochet Kids intl.!) have introduced shoppers to the actual makers behind our clothing. It's endlessly gratifying for us to read the notes our customers write to the people who made their clothing. Because here's the thing... the actions of advocacy groups and the growth of "better for people & planet" brands mean nothing without the support of individuals who consciously make decisions to improve their own personal buying habits.
If you are reading this you are most likely a supporter of ours and for that we are grateful. Please know that each purchase, share, or like on social media is helping to further movement that is prioritizing the wellbeing of makers across the globe. And even more, the impact and influence you have over your personal community with the model you set is far from insignificant.
